Sar Pass Trek – The Sar Pass sits at an altitude of approx 13,580 ft above sea level in the Kulu district of Himachal Pradesh. The Sar Pass is one of the pleasant treks of India, it offers a variety of flora and fauna, you pass through various live streams and offering a variety of terrain change. The base camp for this trek is Kasol, which is again a popular spot for the crowd who are young at heart. The Kasol is situated near the banks of Parvati river in the Parvati valley.

The trek starts with dense forests and shifts to a total whiteout, you trek to Grahan village on Day 2, crossing the Grahan Nallah and moving over the rocky and steep path. You take a shift from the green lush forest to a less green and to direct a white environment, you walk over the snow on an ascending path. During the trek, you pass through various small meadows which are locally termed as Thatch, you will be passing through the Min – Thatch and the Biskeri – Thatch and is mostly occupied by villagers with their livestock to graze.

Explore the local cuisines served at the different cafes. Kasol is situated at an altitude of 5,184 ft. in the Parvati valley with the river Parvati running along the side. Kasol is a hub to many tours and treks which is often crowded with adventure lovers and to spice to their travel they choose to indulge in the other activities offered at Kasol.

In the native dialect, SAR indicates “pond,” therefore this trek, which begins at an elevation of 13,816 feet and ends at an elevation of 13,816 feet, is dubbed Sar Pass since you must PASS by a mountain Lake called “Sar.” It is located in Himachal Pradesh’s Parvati Valley, with Kasol as the preliminary step for this hike.

This hike is great with first hikers due to its simplicity – IT’s not too difficult a trek – let us assure you that. It’s a tried-and-true option for people looking to cover a wide range of scenery in a single hike. This trail offers a variety of sights and sounds, including woods, pastures, a charming hamlet, and snow-capped peaks. All types of pathways can be found in the Himalayas, including large and small grasslands and woodlands, as well as Himalayan old schools and attractive settlements. This walk takes you through a variety of landscapes, and it begins in Kasol, far from any city. This popular tourist site attracts visitors from all over the world. The journey to Sar starts in Kasol, which is famed for its beautiful evergreen forest and creeks. The hike takes you through deep woodlands before ending in a completely snow-covered environment. Itinerary

Sar Pass Trek 5D/4N

Day 1: Trek to Grahan village:

Altitude: 7,700 ft.
Trek: 9 km (5-6 hours)
Meals included: Lunch – Evening Snacks – Dinner.
Stay type: Stay in tents on sharing basis.

  • Reach the requested spot at 10 am, meet the trek representative, and start your trek to Grahan, the trail starts from entering into the lush pine forests.
  • Post Grahan Nallah the route will continue with steep ascent crossing through the steep rocks & forest of Rhododendron.
  • A few hours more of walking you reach the Grahan village, pitch your tents, keep your luggage at the allotted tents and explore the village.
  • Have your hot dinner at the campsite and retire for the day.

Day 2: Grahan village to Minthatch:

Altitude: 11,150 ft.
Trek: 6 km (5 -6 hours)
Meals included: Breakfast – Lunch – Evening Snacks – Dinner.
Stay Type: Stay in tents on sharing basis.

  • Wake up to a great morning and enjoy breakfast with a great view of mountains all around and start your trek to Min Thatch.
  • Few more hours of walking the Min Thatch opens up, locals bring their cattle here to graze. This part of the trek gets denser with lush green forest all around, stay with the group to not get stuck anywhere else.
  • Admire the Chandrakhani stretch and many other peaks visible from the campsite.
  • Have your hot meals at the campsite and retire for the day.

Day 3: Min Thatch to Nagaru:

Altitude: 12,450 ft.
Trek: 5 km (4 -5 hours).
Meals included: Breakfast – Lunch – Evening Snacks – Dinner.
Stay Type: Stay in tents on a sharing basis.

  • Wake up to a chilly morning, pack your luggage and start your steep trek to Nagaru.
  • During the trek enjoy the mesmerizing views of the splendid mountains surrounding the Parvati valley.
  • Once you reach the Nagaru campsite, pitch your tents and be the evening enjoy the view of Manikaran town, it lights up as multiple fireflies sat on a tree.
  • The nights get a little cold so be prepared, have your hot meal, and retire for the day at the campsite.

Day 4: Nagaru to Biskeri Thatch via Sar Pass:

Altitude: 13,580 ft.
Trek: 6.5 km (7 -8 hours).
Meals included: Breakfast – Lunch – Evening Snacks – Dinner.
Stay Type: Stay in tents on a double/triple sharing basis.

  • Give a kick start to the morning, have your breakfast and get ready for an adventurous day with a dazzling view of the Tosh valley.
  • After a tiring climb, you reach the top of Sar Pass, enjoy the views of Deo Tibba & Hanuman Tibba peak.
  • After spending enough time at the pass, climb down to Biskeri with many magical streams flowing down to the valley.
  • Reach the campsite and rest, enjoy the hot meal of the day and retire for the day in the respective camps.

Day 5: Biskeri Thatch to Kasol via Barshaini:

Drive: 16 km (40 min).
Trek: 5 km (3 -4 hours).
Meals included: Breakfast.

  • Wake up to a fresh morning, have your breakfast, and start your trek downhill through the dense forest of pine
  • Cross the bridge and you enter the Barshaini village, board your vehicle and drive back to Kasol.

Things to Carry

  1. Shirts / T-shirts –2/3, Jeans / Trekking Pant-2/3.
  2. Windproof jacket of decent quality (no flimsy wind cheaters please!) preferably with a hood.
  3. Warm and thick Fleece / Full-sleeve Woollen sweater.
  4. Thermal inner wear (upper & lower), Scarf/muffler (optional).
  5. Woollen cap, Woollen gloves, Woollen socks & regular socks (3-4 pairs.
  6. Comfortable Trekking/Hiking shoes (Waterproof shoes with a thick sole are recommended).
  7. Lightweight floaters/sandals/slippers.
  8. Raincoat / Poncho, Small quick dry towel.
  9. Water bottle (sturdy ones, no empty Bisleri bottles!!).
  10. Cap / Hat to keep the strong sun away from your face.
  11. Sun glasses (polarized/UV Protected), Walking stick / Trekking pole.
  12. Sunscreen Lotion, Lip Balm, Torch / Flashlight (with extra batteries).
  13. Medicines, if requiring any specific medication.
  14. Personal toiletries.
  15. Hand Sanitizer.
  16. Extra face masks.
