Amritsar is a city in the Punjab region of northwest India, 28 kilometres from Pakistan’s border. The holiest gurdwara (religious complex) of the Sikh religion is the gilded Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), which is located in the middle of its walled old town. It’s surrounded by the revered Amrit Sarovar tank (lake), where pilgrims bathe, and is at the end of a causeway.
