A village called Alchi is located in Ladakh, India’s Leh district. It is situated on the banks of the Indus River in the Likir Tehsil, 70 kilometres downstream of the Leh capital. Alchi is not on a hilltop like the other gompas in Ladakh; rather, it is located on lowland.
